Automated refractometry
Automated refractometry is a computerized diagnostic system that measures the refractive error of an eye in an objective manner.
It allows having quite a clear idea of the patients’ refractive defect (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism). The final check will be performed, however, with the reading of the eye-chart, since the automated refractometer can easily generate errors, especially in younger patients, who have a well-developed accommodative system. This is taken into account by instilling eyedrops that counteracts the accommodation.
